The benchmarked performance was carried out in February 2020, and found that Vodafone was ‘best in test’ for making and receiving mobile calls, and also best for services like video streaming, web browsing and file transfers. Vodafone was also rated number one for speech quality and for call reliability, meaning the fewest calls that fail to connect and the fewest dropped calls.
The increase in overall performance by Vodafone year-on-year has been driven by continued investment on its network – including the role out of new first to market technologies such as 4G calling (Voice over LTE) which launched in 2019.
As Ireland faces a period of uncertainty, it is critical that mobile and broadband connectivity supports the steady rise in remote working because of actions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Vodafone’s ongoing investment means that its network is at the highest standard to deal with increased demand from customers using its connectivity to work remotely. In addition, Vodafone has a dedicated and comprehensive network monitoring system in place and a team of expert engineers who on a daily basis will be taking actions to deal with any localised congestion issues that may arise.
Vodafone’s business continuity strategy of network operations is based on geo-redundancy and home office capability. The company is well-placed to do this by leveraging its global data network and technology, including videoconferencing, internet telephony and cloud and hosting services, to conduct virtual meetings and share information quickly and securely.
Didier Clavero, Technology Director, Vodafone Ireland, said: “As a business, we continue to focus on improving and updating our network across Ireland to ensure we provide world class connectivity for our customers, particularly during this uncertain period as we look to support our customers working remotely. These findings validate Vodafone’s ongoing network enhancement programme and is a testament to the new technologies introduced over the last year.”
Hakan Ekmen, CEO Telecommunication at umlaut, says “Vodafone Ireland is `Best in Test`. Congratulations to Vodafone Ireland for being best operator in all categories with an overall score of 884 dots. As the de-facto industry standard, our benchmarking methodology focuses on customer-experienced network quality and covers a wide range of mobile services. Our top priority is to fairly and transparently assess the global development of networks, to push their quality and performance and ultimately achieve improvements for every customer.”
