As a new Vodafone customer, your new SIM card should be active and ready to use. It should be as easy as popping your SIM into your device and switching it on. You can see instructions on inserting your SIM card for your phone make and model on our Online Device Guides page. It can take up to two hours to switch your number over to the Vodafone Ireland network.
Sometimes new SIM cards do not work if your phone is locked to a different network. The easiest way to check if your phone is locked is to insert your Vodafone Sim card into the device, if your phone does not work with the SIM card, it means your device needs to be unlocked.
To unlock your device, please contact your previous network provider and request a Network Access Code (NAC).
Once your device is unlocked, it's quick to activate your replacement SIM by following the steps below:Â
- Log on to your My Vodafone account
- Scroll to the bottom of the home page and select 'My SIM'
- Select 'Activate new SIM'
- Your new SIM card number should already be populated, so just check the number is correct and press 'Activate new SIM'
Put your SIM into your device and switch it on. You can find instructions on how to insert your SIM on our Online Device Guides page.
Check if your device has signal and shows the Vodafone symbol on the top left corner of your screen.
It can sometimes take up to 24 hours for SIMs to activate, please bear with us. You can continue to use your old SIM until the service drops – this means your new SIM has been activated.
If your SIM is still not active after 24 hours, please connect with our customer support team by clicking the Chat button on this screen.
