Our Privacy Policy

 

Vodafone Ireland Limited (hereinafter referred to as "Vodafone" "us" "we" or "our") is committed to respecting your privacy and to complying with all applicable data protection and privacy laws.

Increasing innovation and development in mobile telecommunications means that our relationship with our customers is growing closer.

We acknowledge that our customers like to be briefed on what we do with their personal data. Therefore the objective of this policy is to inform you how we handle your personal data.

Vodafone offers a wide range of product and services based on modern technologies including mobile telecommunications and internet (related) services.

This policy applies to all personal data ("Data") in our possession and specifically includes the following: call traffic details, service usage data (e.g. Vodafone Mail/WAP/MMS/live! use) and customer information (including name, address, fixed line number, mobile number, email address and all other contact details).

The content of WAP sites and SMS services (in particular premium rate services) are regulated by RegTel and are not covered by this policy.

 

Acquisition

  1. All Data will be obtained fairly. We will make you aware of all purposes that we intend to use your Data for at the time of collection or will be advised to you prior to use.
  2. Data will be accurate and complete and, where necessary, kept up to date.
  3. Data will be adequate, relevant and not excessive in relation to the purposes for which it was obtained.
  4. All acquisition methods (e.g. customer application forms, competition entries) will have a clear information piece explaining any intended purposes including secondary uses that may not be obvious to you (e.g. if competition entries are intended to be used for marketing purposes this will be clearly advised to you and an appropriate opt out box will be provided).

 

Use and disclosure of information

  1. Data will be kept only for clear and legal purposes.
  2. All Data will be processed fairly and in keeping with the purposes for which it was obtained.
  3. Data will not be used, disclosed or processed in any manner incompatible with the purposes for which it was obtained.
  4. Disclosure of Data will only be made to third parties who are our agents or servants acting on our directions. Save as required by law (e.g. criminal investigations) no disclosure of Data will be made to third parties for those third parties' own purposes or use.
  5. Under no circumstances will lists of customer data/information (i.e. mailing lists or database information) be disclosed to a third party for that third party's exploitation or use without your express permission. Data may be legitimately given to Vodafone's servants or agents for legitimate purposes as described above. This may include the transfer of data to other jurisdictions for processing. In these circumstances Vodafone will ensure that adequate contractual and technical safeguards are in place to protect your Data. All such processing will take place in full compliance with all applicable laws.
  6. If Data has been obtained for a purpose without advising you of other compatible secondary purposes for which it is subsequently to be used, the Data will not be so used without advising you.
  7. Where you have agreed to be in included in our directory enquiry list your information will automatically be Included in the National Directory Database (NDD) currently hosted by Eircom (as nominated by the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg)).
  8. - For fixed services your NDD Opt Out preference will transfer automatically from your previous provider, unless otherwise specified

    - For mobile services we will automatically list you as preferring not to receive direct telemarketing from third parties.

  9. You may wish to contact us if you would like to amend these preferences.

 

Retention

  1. Data will be kept for no longer than is necessary for the primary purpose for which it was obtained.
  2. Data will be retained for any period required by law.
  3. Some Data that is not otherwise subject to retention for normal reasons may need to be retained because of circumstances such as litigation or government investigation.
  4. Subject to paragraphs 13 and 14 the following specific retention periods will be followed:

6 months plus current month (max.) for our purposes (as described above and in our general terms and conditions e.g. market research, product development).

Interconnect call records (i.e. the records of calls made to or received from other networks) are retained for 12 months for inter-operator billing purposes.

For legal purposes call traffic records will be retained for a period of 2 years to comply with State requirements. This retention will take place in a restricted access secure system and will not be used for Vodafone's commercial purposes.

Business Call Traffic Details (actual record of call, i.e. time of call, caller, number called, duration of call, etc)

6 months plus current month (max.) for our purposes (as described above and in our general terms and conditions e.g. market research, product development). 

Interconnect call records (i.e. the records of calls made to or received from other networks) are retained for 12 months for inter-operator billing purposes. 

For legal purposes call records will be retained for a period of 2 years to comply with State requirements. This retention will take place in a restricted access secure system and will not be used for Vodafone's commercial purposes. Business customers may elect to avail of ancillary services that may retain their call details for longer periods. This retention will only take place where the customer has agreed to the additional service.

Data Service Usage Details (WAP site visits, web site visits, live! Use, text alert subscriptions)

6 months plus current month (max.) for our purposes (as described above and in our general terms and conditions). This data does not include content.

For legal purposes usage records will be retained for a period of 12 months to comply with State requirements. This retention will take place in a restricted access secure system and will not be used for Vodafone’s commercial purposes.

Cookies are stored on a per session basis only to aid your navigation of our web-sites. Persistent cookies may be set to store display related preferences. Depending on your browser you may also be able to control cookie use by altering your browser settings. See more  
Invoices & Statements

6 years plus current year for invoices and statements.

The call detail element of your standard bill will be severed and deleted after 6 months, as described above.

Location Based Information for value added services (excluding network traffic data) Deleted immediately on completion/ termination of the value added service.

 

Access to your information

You are entitled to copies of your Data kept by us. Requests should be made by downloading our Request for personal information form and should be addressed to Data Protection Officer, Vodafone Ireland Limited, MountainView, Leopardstown, Dublin.

We will take all reasonable steps to confirm your identity before issuing any copy Data.

 

SecureNet Privacy Supplement

 

Vodafone Secure Net is a service that offers protection against security threats including viruses, trojans, spyware, adware and unwanted programs. Vodafone SecureNet Find & Ring operates as a complimentary service that helps locate your device. It requires access to your device’s location data.

This Supplement defines how your information is used by by Secure Net and the complimentary Find & Ring feature. 

What information we collect

In addition to your device location data, we will also ask you to enter your email address when first setting it up. This is for product registration so that we can activate Find and Ring.

This is the email address we will use for account recovery. Make sure you keep your account details secure - this is essential for your privacy and security.

 

Vodafone will collect and use your data, including usage statistics, to:

·       Improve the Service;

·       Improve the security of the Vodafone Network; and

·       Provide you with a higher level of security and protection whilst you are on the Vodafone Network.

 

Location Information - Secure Net Find & Ring Only

Secure Net Find & Ring will only share location data with your separate permission if you choose to use the app. Secure Net Find & Ring locates your device by making use of the location data assessing the GPS location data, Wifi location data and the network location data that your device uses. This data is broadcast to Vodafone every 3 hours and when the battery is low on your device. 

Vodafone only uses the location data from Secure Net Find and Ring to locate your device on your request. We do not sell it or rent it out to third parties.

For how long do you keep my personal data? - (Secure Net Find & Ring only) 

Vodafone will retain your email address for as long as you continue to use Secure Net Find & Ring. Vodafone will retain the location data from your device for a maximum of 24 hours. After that time the data will be deleted and no location history is maintained.

Vodafone may retain aggregated and statistical reports that have been generated using your personal data and anonymised data for a longer period, but as these reports cannot identify you as a user, they cannot be used in a way that impacts your privacy.

Information Security

Vodafone takes technical and organisational security measures as required by law and by industry standards to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, use or disclosure.  We take steps to ensure that we only use your personal information as described in this privacy notice and to honour the permission choices that you have made. We only partner with service providers who contract to provide the same level of information security that you can expect from Vodafone.

Who Provides the Service?

Vodafone Secure Net and Secure Net Find and Ring are provided solely by Vodafone Ireland Limited, registered in Ireland at Mountainview, Leopardstown, Dublin 18 under registered number 326967.
