The process

How do I start the Trade In process? 

You can start the trade in process via the My Vodafone app or our Trade In information page.

How do I find the exact model of my smartphone?

In the online diagnostic process, you can select the model of your smartphone from a drop-down menu. Later in the trade-in process, you will be asked for the IMEI number of your smartphone. To find it, enter *#06# to display the IMEI number on the call screen. This will help identify the exact model.

I can't find my smartphone in the Trade In search bar 

Unfortunately, the Vodafone Trade In service is not available to all mobile phones in the market. This is due to unavoidable operational reasons. If there is no option for your device, we recommend visiting your nearest Vodafone store and leave it with us to be recycled responsibly.

I am having a problem entering my IMEI 

If you're having issues entering your IMEI, please try clearing your browser cache then try again.

My camera test isn’t working 

Please make sure you have enabled all camera settings in your mobile phone settings before proceeding with the test.

How is the buyback value calculated?

Your smartphone will be evaluated through an online diagnostic process. The buyback value of a model depends on the condition of the device and its value on the used smartphone market. Recommerce will confirm the buyback value after receiving and inspecting the device.

What if Recommerce evaluates my smartphone differently to the online process?

Every smartphone is checked by Recommerce upon arrival at their processing centre. You will receive a new offer by e-mail if the condition of your smartphone differs from the evaluation of the online diagnostic process. You can accept or reject this new offer within 7 days.

Can I sell landline phones or tablets? 

Vodafone Trade In is currently only available for smartphones.

How long is the buyback value offer valid for? 

The offer is valid for 15 days. After this date, the buyback value may change.


How do I send my old smartphone? 

Send your old smartphone back via your nearest An Post drop-off point with the provided envelope/package.

Stick the provided shipping label on the outside of the packaging. You should receive both the envelope/package and shipping label to your chosen address once you have approved the trade in value and submitted your contact details.


What do I need to consider before shipping? 

Recommerce permanently and securely deletes all personal data on your old smartphone in the processing centre.

Nevertheless, we recommend that you delete all your data yourself before sending it away. Save your data beforehand or transfer it to your new phone (if you have one) before sending your old smartphone away. Disable all access codes, for example the PIN code, reactivate the default settings, remove the SIM card, or delete the eSIM from your old smartphone.


How do I turn off the Find My iPhone feature?

To disable the "Find my iPhone" function:

  1. Go to "Settings"
  2. Click on your name on the Apple ID
  3. Click on your device
  4. Click on "Find my iPhone"
  5. Switch off the function

How do I remove a Google account from my old smartphone?  

To remove a Google account from your smartphone:

  1. Open your smartphone's Settings app
  2. Select "Google"
  3. Then tap "Manage Google Account"
  4. Select "Security"
  5. Select your device and click on "Remove"

How do I find out if my smartphone has a SIM or network lock? 

Checking this is simple, insert a SIM card from another provider into your smartphone. Does it work? If it does, then your smartphone does not have a SIM or network lock.

How can I track the processing of my old smartphone? 

You will receive an email when your old smartphone has arrived at our partner Recommerce. With each processing step, you will receive another email. If you still have questions, please email

Why does my old smartphone go to Recommerce and not to Vodafone?

Recommerce is our partner for the responsible processing of used devices.

Do I send accessories from my old smartphone like headphones or cables? 

No. All you must do is to send your old smartphone. You can keep your accessories such as headphones or charging cables and continue to use them.

Important: You will not get your accessories or the original packaging back if you send them with your old smartphone. Recommerce recycles them for free. Do not send a smartphone with a damaged or bloated battery. You can recognise this by, for example, a deformation of the smartphone or extraordinary heat development.


What if my old smartphone is lost or damaged in transit to Recommerce?

What if I don't want to send my old smartphone or if I don't send it in time? 

The buyback value for your old smartphone is considered an offer for 15 days.

You can only cancel the order if you have not yet sent your smartphone. If you would like to cancel a return that you have already made via the ReTrade process, please email our partner Recommerce to:


How long does it take to check my old smartphone? 

Recommerce checks your old smartphone immediately upon receipt. As a rule, it takes 5 days maximum. If there are any changes, you will immediately receive an update by email.

Data security

What happens to my data?

Your data will be completely and securely deleted upon receipt of your old smartphone, in the processing centre of Recommerce.

What happens if I leave my SIM in my old smartphone? 

Our recommendation: Take your SIM card out of your smartphone before you send it. If the smartphone still has a SIM card, it will be destroyed immediately and cannot be returned. In this instance, go to a Vodafone store to get a new SIM card.


How long does it take to receive payment for my old smartphone? 

Recommerce will transfer the buyback value to you 48 hours after you have received the price acceptance verification email.


What will happen to my old smartphone?

Recommerce takes back the smartphones, then repairs and refurbishes them. This gives your old and used device a second life. Functional smartphones are then resold in Europe and in emerging markets. This gives the population there access to a mobile phone.

Can I return damaged or broken smartphones?

Yes, you can drop off damaged or broken smartphones to selected stores to be recycled. See below for a list of Vodafone Retail stores where this service is available.
