What is 4G Calling?

With 4G Calling you stay on the 4G network when you make a call. So any apps you’re using stay connected to our 4G data network instead of dropping back to 3G or 2G.

Plus with 4G Calling, you’ll experience faster call setup and better call quality wherever 4G is available.

How do I activate 4G Calling?

To benefit from 4G Calling you will need to have compatible handset and tariff plan. 

Currently the below phones support 4G calling. However we will be enabling more handsets to support 4G Calling over the coming months. So please keep an eye on our website for further updates.

The following tariffs are enabled to support 4G Calling:

  • Red Connect Essentials
  • Red Connect Essentials II
  • Red Connect
  • Red Connect Super
  • Red Standard
  • Red Complete
  • Red Max

If you have a compatible Android phone and tariff, there's no setup required, the feature will activate automatically wherever 4G is available.

If you have a compatible iPhone:

  • Click on 'Settings'
  • Then click 'Mobile Data', 'Mobile Data Options' then 'Voice & Data'
  • Ensure the 'Voice & Data' setting is set to '4G, VoLTE On'

Note: When your account is enabled for 4G Calling, you will need to re-set supplementary services such as call diverts and call barring on your handset. For more information on how to set up these services click here.

What is Wi-Fi Calling?

Vodafone Wi-Fi Calling is an integrated service that allows you to make and receive voice calls over a wireless internet connection such as your home broadband, office broadband or public Wi-Fi. This should help you to make voice calls in areas with low network coverage or no mobile signal. 

How do I start using Wi-Fi Calling?

There are just a few steps to check before you can start using Wi-Fi Calling. Take a look below.

Have you got a compatible phone?

You need to be using a handset that supports Wi-Fi Calling. This feature is currently available on the the below phones but we’ll be adding more handsets - keep an eye out here for updates.

Is the Wi-Fi Calling feature switched on?

Your handset must be connected to Wi-Fi and you need to switch Wi-Fi Calling feature to the 'on'  position in your phone settings. To do this, please follow the steps below:

  1. On your Home screen select the Phone app
  2. While on the Phone screen select the menu on the top right
  3. Next select the Settings option
  4. In Settings, scroll down to the Wi-Fi Calling option and click the toggle on the right
  5. On the Wi-Fi Calling pop up – select OK
  6. Wi-Fi Calling is now enabled

Once enabled, your phone will automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network and allow Wi-Fi Calling in conditions when your mobile signal may be not be strong enough.

Are you on an eligible tariff?

Wi-Fi Calling is available to consumer Bill pay customers who are on one of the eligible tariffs below:

  • Red Connect Essentials
  • Red Connect Essentials II
  • Red Connect
  • Red Connect Super
  • Red Standard
  • Red Complete
  • Red Max

Where can I use Wi-Fi Calling?

You can use Wi-Fi Calling where you have a strong Wi-Fi signal with a good internet connection.

How much does it cost to use Wi-Fi Calling?

You will be charged the same rate as making a call over the mobile network. So for example, if your tariff plan includes a bundle of voice minutes, your bundle will be depleted when you make a call over Wi-Fi in the same way as if your call was made over the mobile network.

What phones support Wi-Fi Calling?

Currently, only the below phones support Wi-Fi Calling. You'll need to ensure you have installed the latest firmware on your handset in order to see Wi-Fi Calling in your handset settings.

Additional phones will be enabled over the coming months and our website will be updated to include these handsets as soon as they are ready. Keep an eye out here for updates.

Can I make inbound and outbound calls over Wi-Fi?

Yes, Wi-Fi Calling supports both inbound and outbound calls.

Can I use Wi-Fi Calling when roaming?

No, Wi-Fi Calling is not supported while roaming.

Is Wi-Fi Calling available to Pay as you go and Enterprise customers?

Unfortunately, Wi-Fi Calling is not yet available to Pay as you go or Enterprise customers.

Can I send a text message over Wi-Fi?

No, text messages cannot be sent or received over Wi-Fi Calling.
